Der von Antoine Lafréry in seinem »Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae« publizierte Kupferstich zeigt den Bogen des Septimius Severus auf einem Untergrund mit einem Schachbrettmuster. Diese Art der Darstellung lässt sich auch bei Werken von Antonio Salamanca (1500–1562) beobachten (vgl. Kat. Florenz 2004, S. 43).
