Theologe, Altphilologe, Humanist und Professor, geb. 1559 in Genf, gest. 1614 in London, Vertreter eines gemäßigten Calvinismus, 1582 wurde er Professor in Genf, sein Ruf als berühmter Gräzist verschaffte ihm 1596 den Ruf nach Montpellier, wo er bis 1599 lehrte, nach kurzem Aufenthalt in Lyon berief ihn Heinrich IV. 1600 nach Paris; vgl.
