Sponsel erwähnte keine Vorlage für das Vitenporträt; vgl. Sponsel 1896, S. 160, Nr. 133 a). Peltzer nannte jedoch in Zusammenhang mit der Identifizierung einer Vorlage für Sandrarts Vorzeichnung zu dem Vitenporträt im Cod. icon. 366 ein Gemälde van Dycks, das von Theodor Matham gestochen wurde; vgl. Peltzer 1925, S. 127, Nr. 91. Diese Annahme wird auch von Mazzetti di Pietralata aufgeworfen; vgl. Mazzetti di Pietralata 2011, S. 174, Kat.-Nr. 265.
