Schon Sponsel konnte das Porträt der Aspasia auf eine gegenseitige Darstellung in Canini, Iconografia 1669 zurückführen; vgl. Sponsel 1896, S. 151, zu Nr. 84, 14. a). Anstatt auf die Tafel 92 verwies Sponsel jedoch fälschlicherweise auf die Tafel 29. Als direkte Vorlage diente dem Stich die gegenseitige Rötelzeichnung von Johann Jacob von Sandrart, die im Münchener Codex iconographicus 366 enthalten ist; vgl. Mazzetti di Pietralata 2011, S. 226, Kat.-Nr. D5.
