Seit 1515/1535 Teillinie der Markgrafen von Baden, die in Pforzheim, seit 1565 in Durlach und seit 1724 in Karlsruhe residierten. Die Markgrafschaft wurde 1556 evangelisch und fiel von 1635 bis 1648 vorübergehend an Baden-Baden; vgl. Köbler 2007, S. 38.
