1381 fiel Saarbrücken an die walramische Linie Nassau-Weilburg der Grafen von Nassau. Die ältere, im 15. Jh. entstandene Linie wurde 1547 in die Linien Nassau-Saarbrücken und Nassau-Ottweiler geteilt und starb 1574 aus, wobei die Güter an die Stammlinie Nassau-Weilburg fielen. 1629/1651 entstand bei einer Teilung die jüngere Linie, die sich wiederum 1659 in die Linien Nassau-Ottweiler und Nassau-Usingen teilte; vgl.
