Esistono almeno due versioni compositive del soggetto dipinte da Orazio Gentileschi in più repliche. La descrizione di Sandrart corrisponde al dipinto di Bilbao e non alle altre redazioni note del tema (Berlino, Ottawa, Madrid, già Los Angeles). Anche G. Finaldi in Kat. London u. a. 1999, p. 66, identifica il quadro menzionato da Sandrart con la tela di Bilbao.
