Sponsel erwähnte keine Vorlage für das Vitenporträt; vgl. Sponsel 1896, S. 160, Nr. 133 e). Jedoch konnte Peltzer nachweisen, dass die Vorzeichnung des Porträts im Cod. icon. 366 auf ein Selbstbildnis Rembrandts von 1657 im Wiener Kunsthistorischen Museum zurückzuführen ist, was jüngst auch von Mazzetti di Pietralata bestätigt wurde; vgl. Peltzer 1925, S. 127, Nr. 95; Mazzetti di Pietralata 2011, S. 175, Kat.-Nr. 269.
