Da sich auch in Sandrarts Textquelle – den Erläuterungen des Antiquars Giovanni Pietro Belloris in Agostinis Publikation Gemme antiche – keine genaueren Informationen zum Aufbewahrungsort oder zum Besitzer des Stückes finden, kann dieses nicht identifiziert werden; vgl. Bellori, Annotationi gemme antiche 1657–69, Bd. I, S. 3, Nr. 19.
Bislang konnte auch kein anderes Exemplar ausfindig gemacht werden, das einen vergleichbaren Satyrkopf im Profil auf einer hochformatigen Gemme zeigt; vgl. LIMC, Supplementum, Artikel »Pan«, S. 923–941 (John Boardman).
