Sponsels Angabe, als Vorlage für das Bildnis des Hippocrates habe Tafel 52 in Caninis Iconografia gedient (s. Sponsel 1896, S. 177, Nr. 131 a), muss korrigiert werden: Die Darstellung ist nach der Abbildung in Orsini, Illustrium Imagines gearbeitet, die neben Caninis Publikation als die zweite große Referenzquelle für die Bildnisse antiker Persönlichkeiten in der Teutschen Academie diente.
