Annotation
Das von Giovanni Villani um 1300 begonnene Traktat wurde nach dessen Tod von seinem Bruder Matteo bzw. in dessen Nachfolge von Filippo Villani fortgeführt.
Während die Editio princeps 1537 mit 10 Büchern erschien, umfasste die komplette Ausgabe mit den Publikationen 1554 bei Torrentino in Florenz und 1559 bei Giunti in Venedig 12 Bücher. Eine weitere Auflage wurde 1587 durch Baccio Valori in Florenz gedruckt. (Vgl. Villani, Cronaca 1844/1969 (Ed. Gherardi Dragomanni), Bd. I, S. 1 f.).
