Annotation
Die Darstellungen der Medaillons, die um die Nische herum gruppiert sind, gehen bis auf das Bildnis der Flavia Domitilla auf Illustrationen in Agostinis Gemme antiche zurück. Jenem diente ein unbezeichnetes Frauenprofil aus Caninis Iconografia als Vorlage. Im Fall der Kaiserbüste hat sich eine Vorzeichnung aus Sandrarts Hand erhalten, die heute im Codex iconographicus 366 der Münchener Staatsbibliothek aufbewahrt wird.
