Ebenso wie die drei anderen Kopien nach Riberas Serie der »Giganti« ist die Darstellung des Sisyphus erstmals 1700 im Inventar des Palacio del Buen Retiro – dem Sommerschloss Philipps IV. in Madrid – als Kopien nach Ribera dokumentiert (vgl. Spinosa 2003, S. 351).
