Zusammen mit der eindringlichen Darstellung des Tityo und den heute nicht mehr erhaltenen Stücken von Tantalus und Sisyphus bildete die Qual des Ixion die Serie der »Giganti« (vgl. Spinosa 2003, S. 286, Kat.-Nr. A122).
