»Ein ander grosser Wagen der Armuth/ mit Eseln und Ochsen bespannt/ darauf unter ein elendes Strohtächlein die alte übel gekleidte IIENIA , traurig sitzet/ da die Hoffnung und Fortuna, Industria und andere Weiblein/ neben auf der Erden um den Wagen gehen/ als Arbeitsamkeit/ Armuth/ Unterthänigkeit/ Verzweiflung/ alles vortreffliche schöne Inventionen/ mit der Feder gezeichnet/ und mit schwartz getuscht.«

Annotations
Ebenso wie Holbeins Triumph des Reichtums wurde auch das Pendant durch vielfache Nachzeichnungen verbreitet. Bekannt sind u.a. Blätter von Lucas Vorstermann, Merian und Jan de Bisschop. Von wessen Hand die Zeichnung in Sandrarts Besitz stammt, ist nicht bekannt.
