Ebenso wie das Pendant »Morgenstück« konnte auch dieses Werk bis dato nicht mit Sicherheit identifiziert werden. Burke weist auf zwei Szenen mit römischem Volksleben hin (mit Blick auf das Kolosseum bzw. dem Tempel des Saturn im Hintergrund), die als Morgen- und Abendstund Pendants bilden (vgl. Burke 1976 [Burke, James D.: Jan Both: Paintings, Drawings and Prints, zugleich Diss. Phil. Harvard Univ. Cambrigde, Massachusetts 1972, New York/London 1976], S. 184, Kat.-Nr. 7). Ähnliche Werke kommen sowohl für Mayers als auch für Sandrarts Besitz (vgl. hierzu die Abendstund in einer Landschaft) in Frage.
Aus der Zeit von Boths Rom-Aufenthalt hat sich u. a. auch die Darstellung der Morra-Spieler unterhalb des Campidoglio in der Alten Pinakothek in München erhalten. Vgl. ebenfalls die morgendliche Genreszene, die ebenfalls vermutlich aus Boths römischer Zeit stammt.
